Impaired Stoneham teen drove 118 mph, fled police, and then crashed, N.H. authorities say

Authorities said the 18-year-old was arrested after leading police on a pursuit through several towns.

A Massachusetts teenager was arrested early Monday after allegedly driving 118 mph, fleeing from police, and crashing into a wall in New Hampshire, authorities say.

Around 12:30 a.m., a trooper observed a 2014 Chrysler 300 traveling 118 mph on Interstate 95 in Greenland, according to a statement from New Hampshire State Police.

The trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver of the Chrysler failed to pull over, police said.

The driver, an 18-year-old from Stoneham, continued onto Route 101 at the Hampton Side Toll Plaza, with the trooper following as the vehicle traveled westbound through Hampton and Exeter, police said.

After taking Exit 11 in Stratham, the teen driver failed to navigate around a traffic island at the bottom of the off-ramp, lost control of the vehicle, and collided with a retaining wall at the base of the Route 101 overpass, police said.

Authorities later learned the teenager had also failed to stop for Maine State Police about five minutes before troopers encountered him in New Hampshire, according to the police statement.

The driver was taken into custody and showed signs of impairment during the investigation, police said. He was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

He was charged with multiple counts of felony reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor counts of aggravated driving under the influence, disobeying an officer, conduct after an accident, and possession of controlled drugs, police said.

After being medically cleared, the teenager was transported to Rockingham County Jail, where he was held after refusing bail.
