Public Storage, the largest self‑storage company in the United States, is the latest company to announce a corporate headquarters move from California to Texas, joining a broader wave of businesses that have shifted headquarters from California to Texas in recent years.
Why Are Companies Leaving California for Texas?
Public Storage is relocating its corporate headquarters from Glendale, California, to Frisco, Texas, while maintaining a long‑term presence in Glendale, where it has been based for more than 50 years, according to a company statement reported by SFGATE and other outlets, including Fox Business.
The Los Angeles Times reported that the company said it was relocating to benefit from the breadth and depth of talent and innovation in the Texas market, with CEO Thomas Boyle saying that most new roles in recent years have been filled in Texas. He said, “It’s about finding the right talent across the country and building the team going forward.”
Public Storage is following in the footsteps of several other major businesses that have shifted their headquarters from California to Texas.
Business Insider and other outlets report that firms making similar moves often cite more predictable, business-friendly regulations, lower operational costs, better quality‑of‑life factors, and growing pools of talent in areas such as Dallas, Austin, and Houston.
