It’s “a classic New England summer escape with newfound culinary appeal.”
One of the hottest places for travel on the planet in 2026 is in Massachusetts, according to Fodor’s Travel.
The publication released its 2026 Go List, naming 26 places to go in 2026, and included Martha’s Vineyard. The Massachusetts island is one of six U.S. destinations on the worldwide list.
The places on the list “promise a trip that is bound to remind you, as they have us, why travel is so magical,” wrote Fodor’s Travel.
The publication called Martha’s Vineyard “a classic New England summer escape with newfound culinary appeal.”
The island’s lighthouses, bike trails, ice cream shops, and charm make it a “summer powerhouse,” wrote Fodor’s Travel, adding that the best time to visit is between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

And there’s more reason to plan a visit in 2026 than ever. New restaurants like Indigo, a modern, bright Indian restaurant (the only one on the island), Black Joy Kitchen celebrating flavors of the Black diaspora, plus The Ocean Club, with its seafood-heavy menu from seven-time James Beard nominee Chef Marc Orfaly, are bringing in fresh energy—and making it a destination not just for the summer, but for shoulder season, too.
As for where to stay, the publication recommends the 5-star waterfront Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown for lighthouse views and Faraway Martha’s Vineyard, which it called “a boutique gem.”
The other U.S. hot spots on the list are Buncombe County in North Carolina; Coupeville, Washington; Indio, California; Keene Valley in N.Y.; and Key West, Florida.
Earlier this year, CNN named Moshup Beach on Martha’s Vineyard among the best nude beaches in America and Travel + Leisure readers named Winnetu Oceanside Resort in Edgartown among the 15 best resorts in the continental U.S. during the magazine’s 2025 World’s Best Awards. Boston.com readers named Edgartown the most picturesque small town in Massachusetts.
