The Patriots emerged victorious over the Ravens on Sunday night, but they did not come out of the game unscathed.
Seven Patriots players didn’t finish the game due to injuries. That doesn’t include rookie left guard Jared Wilson, who played the entire game but is now in concussion protocol, along with running back TreVeyon Henderson and wide receiver Kayshon Boutte.
Wide receiver DeMario Douglas (hamstring), defensive tackles Khyiris Tonga (foot) and Joshua Farmer (hamstring), cornerbacks Charles Woods (ankle) and Carlton Davis (not announced), Henderson and Boutte all didn’t finish the 28-24 win. Offensive tackles Morgan Moses (knee) and Thayer Munford (knee) both got banged up during the game but returned to action.
The Patriots will likely need to lean on their depth Sunday against the Jets. If Henderson can’t play, then the Patriots would likely need to elevate a running back from the practice squad to provide depth behind Rhamondre Stevenson and D’Ernest Johnson. Rookie Jashaun Corbin is on the practice squad, while veteran Craig Reynolds is on practice squad injured reserve.
The Patriots have four wide receivers — Stefon Diggs, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams and Efton Chism — to fill in if Douglas and Boutte can’t play. They also have Jeremiah Webb and John Jiles on the practice squad.
Christian Barmore, Cory Durden and Eric Gregory are available at defensive tackle if Tonga and Farmer can’t play. Milton Williams is also eligible to return off injured reserve. The Patriots also have good depth on their practice squad with Jeremiah Pharms, Leonard Taylor and Fabien Lovett.
As long as Moses and Munford can play, the Patriots have enough depth on their offensive line to fill in the gaps with Vederian Lowe, Ben Brown, Garrett Bradbury, Mike Onwenu, Caedan Wallace and Marcus Bryant. If Moses or Munford can’t suit up, then the Patriots would need to elevate Sebastian Gutierrez, Andrew Rupcich or Brenden Jamies from the practice squad.
The Patriots have Christian Gonzalez, Marcus Jones and Miles Battle available at cornerback, depending on the availability of Woods and Davis. The team also has Kobee Minor and Brandon Crossley on the practice squad.
Finally, linebacker Robert Spillane missed Sunday night’s game with an ankle injury. He was spotted in the locker room without a walking boot, which appeared to be a positive sign.
But the statuses of Spillane, Henderson, Boutte, Douglas, Moses, Munford, Wilson, Tonga, Farmer, Davis, Williams and Woods all bear monitoring this week.
All of the injuries could necessitate some roster juggling, since only two players can be elevated from the practice squad. Injured players could be placed on injured reserve, though they’d have to miss four games. The team also could be forced to release players to make space to sign players off the practice squad.
