Rosa Sanchez is accused of trying to kill her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend, Esneiry Pimentel-Lugo, minutes after Valentine’s Day ended.
A Boston woman is accused of trying to kill her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend just minutes after Valentine’s Day came to a close, a chaotic incident in Newton that resulted in criminal charges for both women.
Rosa Sanchez, 37, of Mattapan, allegedly struck her ex’s new girlfriend — 22-year-old Esneiry Pimentel-Lugo, of Roxbury — with a car on Lagrange Street shortly after midnight on Feb. 15, Newton police said.
According to a police report filed in court, Pimentel-Lugo said she was leaving her boyfriend’s house that night when she saw Sanchez’s car parked nearby on Lagrange Street. She got out to confront Sanchez, and the two women allegedly began fighting in the street, with Sanchez landing some punches and Pimentel-Lugo retrieving a baseball bat to hit Sanchez with it.
Sanchez allegedly retreated to her own car and drove up onto the curb to strike Pimentel-Lugo, according to the report.
But Sanchez’s story differed somewhat, police said. She purportedly told an officer she was at her current boyfriend’s home on Westgate Road when Pimentel-Lugo showed up and chased her out. She explained she got into her car and ended up on Lagrange Street, where Pimentel-Lugo allegedly began hitting her and her car with a baseball bat.
Sanchez also told police she attempted to drive away and almost struck Pimentel-Lugo, according to the report. A neighbor recorded some of the incident, and the footage purportedly showed Pimentel-Lugo standing on the side of the road following the alleged altercation before Sanchez’s car “surges forward” to strike her.
When officers arrived at the scene, Pimentel-Lugo appeared to have blood on her face and hands, and Sanchez’s face was also bloody. Pimentel-Lugo was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with cuts on her face and hands and pain in her hands, legs, and feet. Sanchez was taken to Newton-Wellesley Hospital with cuts on her face and complaints of pain in her arm and ribs.
Both women were later arrested.
Sanchez pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and Pimentel-Lugo also pleaded not guilty to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Both were released on personal recognizance, with orders to stay away from one another.
“From my client’s perspective, she was defending herself,” Pimentel-Lugo’s attorney, Arthur Kelly, told Boston.com.
A defense attorney for Sanchez did not respond to a request for comment. Sanchez and Pimentel-Lugo are due back in court March 23.
