Another day, another wrinkle in the public cheating scandal involving New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel and former NFL insider Dianna Russini.
This time, neither Vrabel nor Russini did anything to land on the front page of Page Six, but it was what one Hall of Famer said about the situation involving the two that has everyone up in arms.
Former Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens tight end Shannon Sharpe shared his thoughts on what’s going on with the biggest scandal in the NFL in recent memory — and let’s just say his opinion rang hollow for many NFL fans.
During a recent episode of his “Nightcap” podcast, Sharpe defended Vrabel from the throng of fans demanding he be fired for his inappropriate relationship with Russini, stating Vrabel’s situation isn’t like those of Ime Udoka, Mel Tucker, and Sherrone Moore — all of whom lost their jobs for having inappropriate relationships with people they worked with.
“Dianna Russini does not work for the Patriots; Mike Vrabel does not work for ESPN,” Sharpe said. “Those are people [Udoka, Tucker, Moore] worked at that institution. Now, in some situations, they have it, you can’t do that with an employee. If you’re a coach, you can’t mess with another employee or subordinate … Dianna Russini has to take that up with her husband, and Mike Vrabel is gonna have to take that up with his wife.
“It’s a moral issue. You got two married people, two married consenting people engaging. What are you firing Mike Vrabel for? What is it that he did? What law or code? Some colleges have ethics or codes. So what code did he break? He broke his vows. Like I said, that’s between him and his wife. That’s between him and God. They’re not the same. Just being honest, guys…I just don’t see the correlation.”
Sharpe’s “what code did he break?” comment didn’t seem to sit right with plenty of people, who ripped him on social media for his seemingly tone-deaf comments.

“We usually call it a ‘vow,’” one fan quipped.
“Pretty sure one of the commandments. Oh, and common decency. Not surprised Sharpe has this [expletive] take,” another fan scoffed.
“Shannon Sharpe still confused about ethics. Not shocking,” a third fan replied.
“If there’s a topic up for discussion, any topic at all, you can believe Shannon Sharpe is on the wrong side of it,” one user noted.
“Bad human beings defending bad human beings… Disgusting,” another user exclaimed.
“Sure. Let’s all let Shannon Sharpe be our moral compass,” one fan stated.
“I’m shocked the guy who ‘accidentally’ went on Instagram live having sex while being sponsored by a sex product sees nothing wrong with an infidelity scandal,” replied another.
