One of New England’s tallest thrill rides delivered an unexpected scare Friday.

Riders on Six Flags New England’s popular Superman: The Ride were forced to walk down from the track after the coaster stalled near the top of the lift hill on April 24.

The ride “did not complete its typical cycle,” the park said in a statement to Western Mass News.

Video shared by TikTok user @jordyyn.m showed riders descending a steep maintenance staircase alongside the coaster’s track as park employees guided them to safety.

The ride stalled at the top of its lift hill, leaving passengers suspended above the park before staff began the evacuation, per Newsflare.

The Superman coaster, one of the park’s signature attractions, stands at 208 feet tall and reaches speeds of 77 mph, with a 221-foot drop and more than 5,400 feet of track, according to Six Flags New England’s website and the Roller Coaster Databse.

Six Flags said the ride has “extensive safety sensors” that can stop the coaster if needed, Western Mass News reported. Trained employees safely unloaded all guests from the ride and stayed in contact with riders throughout the evacuation, the park told the news station.

“All riders were invited to return to the park,” the station reported.

No injuries were reported.

The steel coaster has been at the park since 2000 and is billed by the park as a high-speed “steel supercoaster” that takes riders through “arching climbs and sweeping swoops.”

Boston.com has reached out to Six Flags New England for comment, but did not hear back in time for publication.
