The crash occurred in Salisbury Square as residents gathered to ring in the holiday season.
A teenage girl was hit by a car and seriously injured Thursday in Salisbury as the town celebrated its annual Christmas tree lighting.
Police responded to a crash involving a pedestrian just before 5:30 p.m., according to a release from the Salisbury Police Department. The crash occurred on Route 1, also known as Bridge Road, in Salisbury Square.
The victim was identified as a 14-year-old girl. She was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. They are not considered life-threatening, police said. No other information about the girl was released.
The driver involved in the crash remained at the scene. They are cooperating with an ongoing investigation, police said.

Salisbury’s holiday celebration kicked off at 4 p.m., and the tree lighting was scheduled to take place at 6:15 p.m. Route 1 runs alongside the Town Common, where the tree lighting ceremony took place. A portion of nearby Elm Street was closed to traffic.
