Patriots reportedly agree to two-year deal with backup QB Tommy DeVito

The Patriots are set to bring back one of the team’s notable backups, solidifying the quarterback depth chart behind Drake Maye.

Tommy DeVito, 27, is in agreement with the Patriots on a two-year deal worth $7.4 million that includes $2 million guaranteed, according to the quarterback’s agent, Sean Stellato. The news was originally reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The New Jersey native (who gained a level of notoriety during a stint with the Giants in 2023), originally joined the Patriots in 2025 on a one-year contract after he was claimed off waivers.

Notably, the player who earned the nickname “Tommy Cutlets” during his time in New York helped the Giants beat the Patriots at the end of the preseason last year, completing 17 of 20 passes for 198 yards and three touchdowns in a 42-10 win. But after the Giants deemed him superfluous to their roster, he ended up in New England days later.

The Patriots also have veteran Josh Dobbs as a backup behind Maye, the team’s clear-cut starter and franchise pillar.

The NFL free agency signing period formally begins on March 11, when the new league year starts at 4 p.m. The Patriots, equipped with both cap space and an array of draft picks, are projected to have a potentially eventful offseason.
