A brush fire broke out in Mission Valley amid strong gusty winds on Sunday, threatening nearby homes.
Firefighters with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department received a call of the emergency at around 11:47 a.m. and are working to put out a fire at 2255 Meadow Lark Dr. in the Birdland neighborhood north of Mission Valley, according to SDFD.
Wind gusts up to 23 miles per hour were reported in Mission Valley on Sunday, according to San Diego Gas & Electric.
Due to the fire, San Diego police closed Mission Center Road from Murray Ridge Road to Sevan Court, the San Diego Police Department wrote on X at 1:04 p.m. SDPD added that the closure would last about one hour.
Police urged drivers to avoid the area and find alternate routes of traffic.
