Three teenagers were charged after one of them allegedly brought a loaded gun to school and tried to flee an officer in Delaware on Wednesday morning, officials said.
This all unfolded just before 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 3 when staff at Glasgow High School in Newark told a School Resource Officer that the three students had been overheard talking about a handgun, police said.
The three students were identified as 15-year-old, 17-year-old, and 18-year-old Troy Alston, according to the Delaware State Police.
When the officer tried to talk to the 15-year-old, the boy ran into the hallway before the two struggled, officials said.
Then, the 17-year-old and Alston were accused of grabbing the officer from behind to try and stop him from arresting the 15-year-old, police explained.
All three of the students were ultimately arrested, officials said.
When officers searched the 15-year-old backpack, they found a loaded .40 caliber handgun which had been reported as stolen to the New Castle City Police Department, police said.
The 15-year-old was charged with resisting arrest and possession of a firearm in a safe school zone among other related charges, officials reported. He is being held at a Department of Services for Children, Youth & Their Families (DSCYF) facility on $117,000 cash bond.
The 17-year-old student was charged with conspiracy, hindering prosecution and offensive touching of a law enforcement officer, officials said. He was released back to his family.
Alston was charged with conspiracy, hindering prosecution and offensive touching of a law enforcement officer, according to officials. He was released on a $5,000 secured bond.
No students or staff were hurt during this incident.
