Four Philadelphia schools were dismissed early on Monday due to heating issues amid the dangerously cold temperatures.
Farrell Elementary School, Greenberg Elementary School, the U School and Parkway Center City Middle School all dismissed early on Monday, Feb. 2. The early dismissals were due to heating challenges at the schools that were caused by the continued frigid temperatures in Philadelphia as well as the age of some of the facilities, according to a district spokesperson.
“The District’s Operations Division, in coordination with independent contractors, is actively addressing both ongoing and newly identified facilities issues to ensure that all students can safely return to a full day of in-person instruction as soon as possible,” the spokesperson wrote.
Temperatures had been in the single digits or teens while wind chills have made it feel below zero several days in a row following a winter storm on Sunday, Jan. 25, that dropped the highest amount of snow in the Philadelphia region in a decade.
