With a new program, Philadelphia is willing to provide same-day pay to people who clear the Americans with Disabilities Act — or ADA – compliant ramps along city sidewalks to make traversing these walkways safer for handicapped individuals.
On Wednesday, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker is expected to unveil the new initiative that, the mayor’s office said in a statement, will “focus on clearing all ADA curb ramps in every City Council district to ensure safe and accessible access to recreation centers, schools, and commercial corridors throughout the city.”
Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker is expected to unveil a new program that will offer same-day pay for those who clear snow from ADA curb ramps on city sidewalks. The event is expected to happen at 10 a.m. and it will be livestreamed at the top of this article.
According to a statement from the city, Philadelphia will offer same-day pay for those who work to remove lingering snow on ADA curb ramps across the city.
Just how much the city will pay, what areas will be a priority and who will be eligible for these funds was not immediately disclosed, but the mayor should address these issues during her morning event.
Officials said, in a statement, the new initiative “prioritizes accessibility, safety, and rapid response citywide,” and looks to accelerate the snow and ice removal process that has been ongoing since Philadelphia was hit by a major winter storm last week.
Along with this effort, on Monday, the city announced that it would also deploy 300 additional “ambassadors” to help clear more streets and areas of snow.
Those workers began snow removal operations on Tuesday.
