A giant mound of snow that sits nearly a block long and stands taller than people has taken shape in Grays Ferry, leaving an eyesore for a community that is concerned about what will happen when it melts.
NBC10’s Johnny Archer was at the 1600 block of South Bambrey Street on Tuesday night, where the City of Philadelphia said that it keeps one of its 10 snow storage sites.

“That’s a lot of snow. That’s a lot of snow,” said Janice C., a resident of the area. “We don’t know where it came from or who ordered it. This is a disgrace. This is a disgrace.”
“It is going to flood, and I am very concerned about my property and this community,” Janice added. “I’ve been here 26 years. Twenty-six years I’ve never seen anything like this. Never.”
Neighbors said that trucks starting dumping snow on the site on Feb. 8, 2026, and have been coming every night since.

“It’s very loud,” said another resident in the area. “They’re construction trucks. They’re loud and has people up at 2 in the morning. All night.”
City property records show the vacant lot where the mound sits is owned by the School District of Philadelphia.
City officials said they worked with other agencies to identify locations across the city where the snow could melt safely and efficiently without impacting residents.
But the people who live here, argue this snow is going to be a problem.
“We got no notice, no warning, no anything,” Janice said. “Nobody came knocking and said we’re putting a lot of snow back there.”
“I don’t know who’s going to come get all this, but I’m hoping that the mayor will have people come back out and take all this away,” Janice added. But from here, we are going to be in trouble.”
NBC10 reached out to the city and they say people should call 311 if they have issues with a snow storage site.
The people in this neighborhood tell me they have called 311 several times, but nothing has been done.
