A stretch of Philadelphia’s MLK Drive reopened a week after it closed due to a water main break.
A Philadelphia Water Department spokesperson announced on Wednesday, Feb. 18, that MLK Drive fully reopened between Sweet Briar Drive and the Philadelphia Museum of Art at Eakins Oval.
The stretch had been closed since Wednesday, Feb. 11, following a water main break that caused icicles to form below Girard Avenue and above MLK Drive during frigid temperatures.
A day after the water main break, a fire occurred on a Conrail train car near 2100 MLK Drive on the Wynnefield Heights side of the Falls Bridge.
While the fire was placed under control, firefighters worked to put out hot spots on Friday, Feb. 13, as they pumped water from across the bridge, leading to a closure on Ridge Avenue between Midvale Avenue and I-76 at City Avenue.
