Two people were rescued from a submerged vehicle after a serious crash on a highway in Gloucester County, New Jersey.
According to Gloucester County Emergency Management, just before 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, a commercial utility truck collided with a passenger vehicle along Route 295 northbound in West Deptford and overturned off the highway into the Hessian Run Tributary.
Officials said the commercial truck became submerged in the river, with two individuals inside.
A nearby quick-thinking NJDOT Safety Service Patrol Operator heroically rescued two people from the wreckage. People who were passing by also stopped to help render aid.
Both individuals were taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials said the wreckage from the crash caused a significant fuel leak into the tributary. Hazmat crews responded to assist with the spill.
Multiple northbound lanes remain closed at this hour as crews continue to clean up and investigate. Officials urged travelers to find alternate routes in the meantime.
