A 64-year-old Houston, Texas man has been arrested in Gloucester Township, New Jersey after, police claim, he attempted to use a fake ID in a fraudulent attempt to transfer over $87,000.
In a statement, police in Gloucester Township said the incident unfolded when officers were called to a Fulton Bank branch located along the 1400 block of Blackwood Clementon Road, at about 12:52 p.m. on Feb. 26, 2026.
At that time, the responding officers were alerted to David Hutton, 64, of Houston, Texas, who, officials claim, was attempting to use false driver’s license in order to impersonate an intended victim.
Police said Hutton was attempting to transfer $87,500 out of an account owned by the victim he was impersonating.
Because of the report of a suspicious transaction from bank employees and the intervention from police, officials said, the transfer never happened and no money was taken from the intended victim’s account.
Hutton, officials said, was arrested and charged with forgery, attempted theft by deception and related offenses.
An investigation into this incident remains ongoing, officials said.
Also, police are asking that anyone who may have additional information on this incident to contact the Gloucester Township Police Department at 856-228-4500.
