A man was charged after getting into a fighting stance and assaulting Gloucester Township police officers during a traffic stop on Monday morning, the town’s police department said.
According to police, officers stopped 46-year-old Tyler E. Person on Oak Avenue in the Blackwood section of Gloucester Township at around 9:14 a.m. because Person had active warrants out for his arrest.
When officers approached Person’s vehicle, he “became agitated, refused to exit the vehicle, and made threats of violence toward the officers,” the department’s release stated.
“Person then abruptly exited the vehicle, assumed a fighting stance, and aggressively attacked the officers,” the statement continued. “Officers were able to bring Person to the ground; however, Person continued to actively resist for several minutes before being taken into custody.”
Person continued to make threats of violence against officers after his arrest as well, police said.
The two officers suffered minor injuries from the altercation, but they refused medical treatment, police said.
Person also sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment, police said.
Person remains in custody and was charged charged with aggravated assault on law enforcement officers, resisting arrest with violence, terroristic threats and obstruction, police said.
The reason arrest warrants were initially out for Person have not been released at this time.
